Child abuse and neglect is a
hidden pandemic in the United States of America. There are 2.2 million to 3.3
Million reports yearly of abused
and neglected children; unmet needs of these children, health care,
Poverty and poor educational
settings.
According to National Child Abuse
Statistics- Child help, children have been suffering from child abuse
and neglect for many years which has become pandemic
in the United States of America.
Statistics as
shown that 4 children encounter child abuse
and neglect each day and three out of four of these
children deceased. The writer of this Statistics continues his
argument by giving the ages of these
victims ; these victims are under the ages of
four. Every second according to the national Child Abuse
Statistic, a report of a child or
children has been abuse or neglected; in such report 12 years old are 90%
of the victims; and are known by
their perpetrator. The write believes
that child abuse occurs at every
low economic level, across the
ethnic, and cultural lines, within all regions of religions and at all levels
of
education. National Child Abuse Statistics writer stated
that 36.7% of all women in prison and 14,4% of
all men in prison in the United States were
abused as children; one third of abused and neglected
children will later abuse their
own children, because of the terrible cycle of abuse. The Child Abuse
Statistics in the United States of America
estimated that 906,000 children are victims of abuse and
neglect every year; in their
estimation on child abuse and neglect the rate of victimization is 12.3
children per 1,000 children;
children ages 0-3 are the most likely to experience abuse.
According to the first national study of
the child abuse and neglect problems in the age group done by
the Centers of Disease control
and Prevention along with The Federal Administration for Children and
Families. 1 in 50 U.S. infants
are victims of notable child abuse or neglect; 1,500 children die every year
from child abuse and neglect. In fact, according to the writer’s point of
view, that statistics is just over 4
fatalities every day; 79% of the
children killed are younger than 4 years old.
Child abuse and neglect in
the United States of America
continue to be hidden while these children are encountering pain and
suffering daily. Downs, More, McFadden, & Colin Stated in
the Social Work Issues And Opportunities on
( pg. 239) wrote that child abuse
and neglect is a failure of parents or adults who are in charge of
children refuse to meet the children’s
physically, emotionally, mentally and educationally, in order to
justify their social needs; which account for
52% of approximately one million cases of child
maltreatment reported each year
in the United States of America; about 25% of cases involve physical
abuse (non-accidental injury
caused by caregivers); while estimating 12% of maltreated cases involve
sexual intercourse, oral- genital contact,
including incest, or exploitation; the remaining cases involve
emotional or physiological
maltreatment (chronic denigration of the child’s qualities and desires,
isolation, terrorizing, excessive
age-inappropriate demands, and extreme parenteral violence in the
homes. Downs and his colleagues stated that most
maltreatment perpetrators are parents (77% of
Perpetrators) or other relatives (11% of perpetrators).
It very sad to know that children are always victims of abuse and are neglected. Child abuse could be prevented if the people who are abusing and neglecting these children respect God and society.
